The Voice of Joy

I would like to remind you that our emotions can rise and fall in an instant. The simplest thing can drive them into reverse and affect our entire outlook. I am sure that none of us will every be immune completely to this. However, when the grip of negative emotions drives our joy away, there is a way of escape. It is found in Psalm 27:5-6. In it, David recalled one of those times when his enemies tried to destroy him. He described how he reacted to the threat. In the psalm, David provided us with a formula for escape the problem and restore our joy. Psalm 27:5-6 says, “For in the time of trouble He shall hide me in His pavilion; in the secret place of His tabernacle. He shall hide me; He shall set me high upon a rock. {6} And now my head shall be lifted up above my enemies all around me; Therefore I will offer sacrifices of joy in His tabernacle; I will sing, yes, I will sing praises to the Lord.”

David’s reference to hiding in “the secret place” is a timeless formula for God’s protection and assurance. It is the same “secret place of the Most High” we find in Psalm 91:1. God’s faithfulness is infinite in its power to work on your behalf. The way of escape, from the low places your emotions might take you, is to speak and even sing to your own emotions. As you sing praises to the Lord, you are commanding your emotions to stop falling and your joy to rise again. I’m Dr. Bob.  There, I just gave you the foolproof principle on how to regain your joy. Now, just go and do it. Your attitudes will be flooded with lightness and you will just want to shout!
