The Key to Refreshing

I have been thinking all the people I have recently encountered who need a refreshing in their spirits. So many of us can become mentally, emotionally or spiritually fatigued from what our circumstances have offered us. We pray for those times of refreshing about which the Bible speaks, but often cannot understand why we do not experience them. 1 Peter 3:8, 12a (NKJV) says, “Finally, all of you be of one mind, having compassion for one another; love as brothers, be tenderhearted, be courteous… {12} For the eyes of the LORD are on the righteous, And His ears are open to their prayers;”

The key to that elusive refreshing is to pray specifically that God will bring to you a fresh spirit of compassion for others. Pray that your compassion for them has new life in it. When your heart is focused on compassion for others, you will have the motivation to act to make a difference in their lives. The result will be that they experience the refreshing they need. This becomes the catalyst to set off a refreshing in you. It happens because God is drawn to the compassion of His servants. So, believe God’s Word and get your heart set on the needs of others. Then, God will be drawn to your prayers. He will answer with rivers of living water, just as His Word says He will. I’m Dr. Bob. Who do you know that could use a word of comfort, or an act of compassion? Reflect on what will you do to bring that word or act to them. Then, go and do it.
