Uhaul Hearses

Podcast: Uhaul Hearses
I’m Dr. Bob and for just a Mentoring Minute I want to talk to you about Uhaul hearses. Stay with me on this one. Here is what I am getting at. Have you ever seen anyone driving a Uhaul truck from the funeral to the cemetery? I have never seen even one in a funeral procession. Here is the point: Nobody has ever been able to take their stuff with them. It all gets left behind. On our appointed day to pass into eternity, we take nothing with us… except our commitment to Christ and the fruitful loving difference we made in others while we still breathed. That will be what interests God when we stand before Him. I’m Dr. Bob. Contact me at Dr.Bob@mentoringministry.com and let’s rejoice together in what we will take with us, and not let what stays behind have an improper influence over how we live our lives.

Wealthiest Place on Earth

I’m Dr. Bob and for just a Mentoring Minute, I want to talk to you about the wealthiest place on earth. A friend told me he heard Pastor Miles Monroe say the wealthiest place on earth is the graveyard. Here is what he meant. Too many people live as if they can take the wealth they accumulated with them when they die. Here is the truth. The grave is not the wealthiest place, it’s the emptiest place. All you take with you is the difference you made with what God asked you to steward. My advice is, don’t live like you can take it with you when you die. Live so you can bless others with it while you still live, and be the greatest difference-maker you can be. God will honor your life, and when you stand before Him, you will hear the loveliest words a child of God can hear, “Well done, good and faithful servant. Enter into your rest” I’m Dr. Bob. What could be better? What could be worth more? What a way to live! Contact me at Dr.Bob@mentoringministry.com and share a testimony of your latest investment in what is truly of eternal value.

Heart Scale

I’m Dr. Bob and for just a Mentoring Minute, I want to ask if you have been on the heart scale lately? Let me explain. There are many ways people will judge you and the things you do. Much of the time, their conclusions are influenced by their perceptions of your actions, or what others might say. They are very often wrong. However, God is never wrong. He is always specific and perfect in His methods. His judgment comes from looking inside. He weighs and measures your heart. Why does He do that? Well, He knows that your life, your actions, your attitudes… all are a reflection of your heart. So, He looks past the surface, past what others might use to measure you. He looks inside your heart. Have you taken measure of your heart lately? I’m Dr. Bob. Contact me at Dr.Bob@mentoringministry.com and let me know what you think.

Happy Lips

I’m Dr. Bob and for just a mentoring minute I want to ask if you would like to know a valuable secret? Sure you would! Everyone likes a secret, especially one as valuable as this. The secret is… happy lips! Yes, happy lips! Psalm 63:3-5 says, “Because Your lovingkindness is better than life, my lips shall praise You. {4} Thus I will bless You while I live; I will lift up my hands in Your name. {5} My soul shall be satisfied as with marrow and fatness, And my mouth shall praise You with joyful lips.” I like to say, “And my mouth shall praise You with happy lips.” I do so because the Bible says, “for out of the abundance of the heart, the mouth speaks.” (Psalm 6:45) When your lips get happy with praise for God, the rest of you will join in. It’s a no-brainer! Go ahead. Lift your hands, open your mouth and let your lips celebrate His lovingkindness. You will make happy noises. By now you have figured out I’m talking about the joy of being in God’s hands. I’m Dr. Bob. Write me at www.mentoringministry.com and we can celebrate Jesus and be happy together.

Just Because

I’m Dr. Bob and for just a mentoring minute, I have a question. Have you ever been asked why you do what you do? I have and there have been many times my answer to this question was, “Just because!” I am guessing you have said the same thing. When anyone asks you why you follow Christ, and why you are so committed to Him (and they will), you do not have to say, “Just because.” You have a far more significant answer. You can say, “Just because of who He is.” Or… how about adding, “and just because of what He has done for me.” Both of these answers are awesome door openers to help someone else turn and follow Him. I’m Dr. Bob. Write me at www.mentoringministry.com and share your testimony… just because it would be wonderful to hear from you.

Duck In, Duck Out

I’m Dr. Bob and for just a mentoring minute I want to ask how you would describe your attitude when you go to church? Do you come because of a sense of obligation? Do you attend just because your family does? If this or other similar reasons are the case, you are probably just ducking in and then, as quickly as you can, ducking back out! Do not duck your opportunity. Take a chance. Open your heart to God’s life-giving Word to you. Come and sit. Soak it in. Then, you can pour it out. If you allow God’s Word to soak deeply into your heart every time you come to church, two things will happen. First, you will become someone you never imagined or hoped you could be. Second, you will find yourself pouring His Word out all over others, and they will experience what they otherwise never would have. They will be touched by the power of the living God. They, like you, will be changed forever. I’m Dr. Bob. Contact me at www.mentoringministry.com and let me know what you think.

Self-service Society

It seems that more and more of us place high value being independent from rules and restraints. We hate lines and we have learned to do everything ourselves. We no longer need the services of salespeople, librarians or others who used to be there to care for our needs. Everything in the world around us seems to be rapidly heading toward a self-service society. That can be really convenient. The question is, will it result in our personal loss of the desire and ability to serve others? That would be a tragedy. We are to be like Jesus, who came to serve. Paul described himself as a bondservant. It is the call of every Christian.

Swiss Army Knife

I’m Dr. Bob and for just a mentoring minute I want to talk to you about a Swiss army knife. Have you ever had a Swiss army knife? It is extremely handy and valuable as long as you use it for the purposes for which it was intended. It has many tools, but do not try to cut a 2X4 or drill a hole in granite with it. Like a Swiss army knife, your life can be really effective and valuable to others, if you apply it, and yourself to God’s intended purposes. What is your divinely intended purpose? Stay focused. Apply yourself. Make a difference! I’m Dr. Bob. Contact me at www.mentoringministry.com and let me know what you think.

Batteries Not Included

I’m Dr. Bob and for just a mentoring minute I’d like to share an energizing thought. Have you ever unwrapped a gift that required batteries and found they were not in the package? Without a power source, your gift was useless. It works the same with spiritual gifts. Without their power source, they are useless. Ask the Holy Spirit to empower yours for maximum use. You will find that, unlike batteries that run down and are replaced, the Holy Spirit is always fully charged and ever-ready to anoint your gifts with power from on high. Don’t waste a good opportunity. Share the power of your gift with someone who needs a touch of God’s grace. I’m Dr. Bob. Contact me at www.mentoringministry.com and let me know what you think.
