Go Where Anything is Possible

I’m Dr. Bob and for just a Mentoring Minute, I want to ask if you are headed in the right direction? Or, are you going where only disappointment and discouragement await you, perhaps even failure? When you look ahead, do you see yourself headed for mediocrity and fruitlessness? Well, why don’t you pick a new direction and walk into your destiny. Go where anything is possible. (more…)

Getting Wet is Part of Life.

My wife, Nancy and I were driving down the highway in a rainstorm. Nancy pointed to a large white bird, sitting on a branch in a tree near the side of the road. It was clearly very wet, being completely exposed to the downpour. We talked about how getting rained on is not only part of the bird’s life, but ours too. We all have our share of difficult days. Jesus said, in Matthew 5:45 (NKJV), that our heavenly Father “makes His sun rise on the evil and on the good, and sends rain on the just and on the unjust.”

The Lord’s words reminded me that, like the white bird in the rain, we all experience times of obvious discomfort. Even the majestic eagle has its times experiencing a downpour. The eagle often chooses to launch out and soar above it, riding the currents and enjoying the warmth of the sun. We can be like the eagle, choosing to soar above our problems and feeling the warmth of the presence of the Son. If you’re experiencing problems and feeling down, take to heart Isaiah’s words. In Isaiah 40:31, he wrote, “But those who wait on the Lord Shall renew their strength; They shall mount up with wings like eagles, They shall run and not be weary, They shall walk and not faint.” I’m Dr. Bob. God has given us the ability, like the eagles, to soar with God-given strength above the storms of our lives. Will you fly like an eagle or stay stuck in the storms of life without flying above them by faith?

Who or What’s in Control?

Consider this thought: “You can control your attitudes or your attitudes can control you.” Controlling your attitudes is a proven principle for success. Have you ever watched how children typically interact with each other? (more…)

No Recounts When the King of Kings Comes

During the 2004 American presidential election, the race was so close that it came down to a recount of the vote in the state of Florida. This was aggressively contested and it took a decision from the US Supreme Court to declare the winner. Unlike the United States, the Kingdom of God is not a democracy. We don’t get a recount because we don’t get a vote. Our choices in life will already have voted for us. (more…)

What Have You Been Digging For?

Do you know what “fool’s gold” is? It looks like gold in walls of the mine but is worthless. It’s fooled many people into digging for it. This reminds me that we spend tremendous amounts of energy digging into things we worry about (more…)

“I Am” Had All Power. “I Am Not” Had No Power

When they came to arrest Jesus, He asked them whom they were seeking, knowing it was Him. Their reply was “Jesus of Nazareth.” Jesus said, “I am He.” The power of those words “I am” was so strong that His enemies “drew back and fell to the ground.” This indicates (more…)

The Word Zone

I was immersed in my daily Bible reading when I realized that I experience a unique comfort from it. I value the Bible as a very special place into which I can go. It’s like a zone of its own amazing texture and color. It also carries an aroma and a taste that is pleasant and appealing. (more…)

God Wants to Show You Off When You Have Beaten the Devil.

In Ephesians 3:8-10, Paul wrote he had been given the grace to preach the wisdom of the Gospel, not only to the world, but in particular to the devil’s demonic bunch. Verse 10 (NKJV) says, “to the intent that now the manifold wisdom of God might be made known by the church to the principalities and powers in heavenly places.” As I read this verse, I noticed I had written at the top of the page in my Bible that “God wants to show you off when you have beaten the devil.” Ephesians 6:12 (NIV) says,For our struggle is not against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the authorities, against the powers of this dark world and against the spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly realms.”

The battle is constant, but you have the power to win. It just takes an unrelenting commitment to Christ and the determination to honor your assignment to do battle. The only way you lose is if you run from your assignment. I’m Dr. Bob. Don’t run from the Devil’s bunch. You are God’s champion. Just stand, do battle. As you do, prophesy to those demonic spiritual forces about their future. It’s sure to get them running, but there will be nowhere to hide. There’s a fiery lake waiting for them. It’s a prophetic promise in God’s Word. Revelation 20:7-10 (NKJV) says, “Now when the thousand years have expired, Satan will be released from his prison  {8} and will go out to deceive the nations which are in the four corners of the earth, Gog and Magog, to gather them together to battle, whose number is as the sand of the sea. {9} They went up on the breadth of the earth and surrounded the camp of the saints and the beloved city. And fire came down from God out of heaven and devoured them. {10} The devil, who deceived them, was cast into the lake of fire and brimstone where the beast and the false prophet are. And they will be tormented day and night forever and ever.”

If You Want to Win the Battle, Lead the Way with Praise.

For just a Mentoring Minute, I want to revisit a battle that carries a lesson for all of us. It was recorded in 2 Chronicles, Chapter 20 that the battle was weighted heavily in favor of Judah’s enemies. It was a fearful time. (more…)

If You Don’t Have What You Want, Do Things God’s Way.

I’m Dr. Bob and for just a Mentoring Minute, I’d like to talk about the superior way to make sound judgments that have good outcomes. We are reasonably smart people who generally make sound judgments. However, often we tend to rely exclusively on our assumptions and experience to determine the choices we make. This seems to be a good way to approach many of our decisions, and can become a habit. We will experience unintended consequences and problems when the choices we make don’t result in the outcomes we desire. Simon Peter experienced this after fishing all night without catching anything.  Luke 5:4-6 (NKJV) says, “When He [Jesus] had stopped speaking, He said to Simon, “Launch out into the deep and let down your nets for a catch.” {5} But Simon answered and said to Him, “Master, we have toiled all night and caught nothing; nevertheless at Your word I will let down the net.” {6} And when they had done this, they caught a great number of fish, and their net was breaking.”

Simon Peter’s response to the Lord’s words presents us with a scriptural lesson in the value of the Word of God, whether spoken or written. Simon replied to Jesus that in spite of the natural condition of the moment (his failure to catch fish after trying all night), he would follow what Jesus said, and he did. I’m Dr. Bob. There will be times when we just have to do it God’s way, especially after our way has not netted us any results. It’s a faith challenge, and these don’t often make sense to our natural thinking. Just believe God, then obey and watch the outcome be your blessing.
