I want to share a decisive moment of truth that struck me in a powerful way. On the way to church, I was joking with my wife, Nancy, about hitting the jackpot in the lottery. No, I do not play the lottery! God is my source and I try to steward with great care, all that He provides. Anyway, I was joking about hitting the jackpot. At that moment, the Holy Spirit spoke to my heart that when I accepted Christ, I hit the greatest jackpot there is.

Ephesians 2:8 (NKJV) says, “For by grace you have been saved through faith, and that not of yourselves; it is the gift of God.” Romans 6:22-23 (NKJV) says, “But now having been set free from sin, and having become slaves of God, you have your fruit to holiness, and the end, everlasting life. {23} For the wages of sin is death, but the gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord.”

What cold possibly compare to being given the gift of eternal life… and a trip into the favor of God? The best thing about this is that it was free. I was a guaranteed winner. That is what I call a jackpot. I’m Dr. Bob and that is worth shouting about. So… what are you waiting for? Give God glory with a shout of joy-filled gratefulness! Hallelujah! Now, you can listen to additional Mentoring Minutes at www.mentoringministry.com. Be sure to check the bookstore page on my website, where you will find two hundred previous Mentoring Minutes available through my two books, “Reflections – A Devotional Journal: Volumes One and Two.”

Here is an account of something amazing that happened many years ago in our church in the Fiji Islands. It was in a Sunday service that the Lord gave me a word of wisdom, which I spoke to the congregation. It was a specific warning that someone was to be careful not to put his or her hand inside a piece of machinery. It would be a dangerous thing to do. There was a young woman attending services that day, who heard the warning. She later testified that this word of wisdom came at such a timely moment. She said she worked in a print shop and the next morning, she was operating a large printing press when it became jammed. As she put her hand in the press to release the mechanism, she remembered the word of wisdom. She quickly pulled her hand back. At that very moment, the printing press cleared itself and came crashing down where her hand had been just a moment earlier. It would have crushed it. Psalms 18:30 (NKJV) says, “As for God, His way is perfect; The word of the LORD is proven; He is a shield to all who trust in Him.”

Our circumstances, desires and others’ expectations can press upon us greatly, bring potentially damaging pressure. In addition, there is always the press of temptation. I’m Dr. Bob. Keep your hands, and your thoughts, out of the press. Instead, place them safely in God’s grip. That’s what I call pressing advice to eliminate the press of life. So, here is the question. Have you neglected to heed what God has spoken to you, whether through a spiritual gift of someone else or in your private moments with the Lord? Think carefully. Then reflect on any adjustments you need to make. You can listen to additional Mentoring Minutes at www.mentoringminutes.com.

I’m Dr. Bob and for just a Mentoring Minute, I would like to share something my pastor, Dr. Tom Peters said years ago, while I was pastoring in New York City. He sent me a recording of one of his sermons and his thoughts caused me a great deal of introspection. Dr. Peters said, “Religion worships God for what He did, while fighting what He is doing.” That will get you thinking! It certainly did for me. As I thought back on my personal journey, I could not help giving God great praise for what He had done in my life. In the midst of God’s countless miracles and showers of grace, I realized the great joy of worshiping Him for who He is, as I willingly acknowledged what He had done. I determined to cooperate with anything and everything He wanted to do in, for and around me. Psalm 99:5 (NKJV), says, “Exalt the LORD our God, And worship at His footstool; He is holy.” Carefully consider this advice. It is not to be a question of whether you like or approve of what He is doing. Simply worship Him for who He is. Acknowledge what He has done. Then, cooperate with all He wants to do, with no questions asked or objections raised! Within your obedience, you will find more grace than you can possibly need… and the best thing about this is that His grace will have your name all over it. I’m Dr. Bob. I encourage you to listen to additional Mentoring Minutes at www.mentoringministry.com/blogs.

I’m Dr. Bob and for just a Mentoring Minute, I want to share a very special poem that was written by a very special young lady who is named Sala (Tamanikaiwaimaro). We were blessed to know her during our time as missionaries in the Fiji Islands. She wrote this heartfelt poem and sent it to us after we had left Fiji and gone to our next assignment from the Lord. I know this will touch your heart as much as it did mine. Listen carefully and prayerfully to it. “In the song of the wind, in the shout of the strong, in the mighty thunder or in the whisper of the sunset… GOD is seated on the throne… GOD alone deserves all the adoration, the glory and the praise… Everything has its being through HIM!” The cry of my heart is to know HIM and to daily fall in love with HIM!!!” Every time I read this poem, I cannot help but be drawn to Isaiah 57:1. The New King James Version says, ““For thus says the High and Lofty One Who inhabits eternity, whose name is Holy: “I dwell in the high and holy place, With him who has a contrite and humble spirit…”” As often as necessary, remind yourself that God sits on the high and lofty throne and watches over every step you take. Now, ask yourself what more you need today than to be reminded that as He sits on His high and lofty throne, He watches over every step you take. I’m Dr. Bob and that is a Mentoring Minute you really should share with someone. You can listen to additional Mentoring Minutes at www.mentoringministry.com/blogs.

I’m Dr. Bob and for just a Mentoring Minute let me share one of my fondest memories with you. It began with a cold morning in New Zealand many years ago. It was one of those bone-chilling days that felt so cold, I could not get comfortable. At the time, we were staying in a home that had a big sliding doorwall just off the kitchen. I sat down in a chair next to that doorwall because the sun was shining through it. In a very short time, the sun began to warm me through and through. Even though it is many years later, I still recall how great it felt to feel the effects of the sun. Here is my point. If you have a cold feeling in your soul today, I heartily recommend you quietly sit with the Son, the S.O.N. of God. His loving presence will drive out the cold, warm your soul and fill your heart. I promise you that whatever feels cold and dark, or anything that burdens your heart, with will evaporate in the presence of Jesus’ loving warmth. Take time to sit with Him today. Oh, go ahead. Give it a try. I promise you it works. I’m Dr. Bob. This Mentoring Minute comes like a ray of sunshine, straight from God’s heart, through mine, to yours. You can listen to my previous Mentoring Minutes at www.mentoringministry.com/blogs. While you are there, find something in my Free Resources that will encourage you. Then, share it with someone else who needs a warm-up. These days, such people are not difficult to find.

I’m Dr. Bob and for just a Mentoring Minute, I want to set things straight. If you have given your life to Christ, but have been living with condemnation because of your past, it’s time to change your focus, which will change your thinking. When you gave your life to Jesus, God changed His focus. He no longer looks at your sinful past. He now looks at you as a washed in the blood of the lamb, devil stomping son or daughter of God. He sees you as a winner and a champion. When God considers a believer’s value to Him, He looks to the Lamb, not at the sinner. Your performance is no longer the standard of God’s acceptance. Jesus took care of that. Your acceptance by God is complete because of the grace-filled sacrifice of the Lamb, the Lord Jesus Christ. He is the only spotless, sinless Person who could ever have met the standard of holiness in heaven. So, just relax. Do your best and let God’s view of the Lamb do the rest. That is the truth. It will set you free, and keep you free, as often as you need to remind yourself of it. I’m Dr. Bob. That’s the truth and you can hear more of my Mentoring Minutes at www.mentoringministry.com. I know they will bless you.

I’m Dr. Bob and for just a Mentoring Minute, I want to ask you this question. Have you looked past your problems lately and focused on your blessings? I would like to remind you that God has blessed you simply because He can, and is motivated to do so simply because… He loves you. Furthermore, you have an eternal destiny simply because… Jesus died for you on the cross. Why have I written this for you to read? Simply because… I have been thinking about all these things as they apply to my own life, and I am grateful that I could bring them up to you. Let’s face it; God thinks you are somebody special. As a result, He has poured out His grace and loving concern upon you. Now, you have a life filled with the power of opportunity. All this happened simply because… Jesus was raised from the grave, is alive and functioning with all the authority of heaven. God sees you as a winner and a champion, someone who is the devil’s worst nightmare. He celebrates the reality that you are a miracle waiting to explode on the scene – simply because… you have surrendered your life to the Lord Jesus Christ. I’m Dr. Bob and that is a Mentoring Minute you can shout about. You can listen to my previous Mentoring Minutes at www.mentoringministry.com/blogs simply because… you can.

I’m Dr. Bob and for just a Mentoring Minute, I want to point out to you that it is easy to recognize genuine love. A great deal of the trouble in our lives comes from failing to recognize and understand the life-changing, life-saving value of love. This value is clear to see in love’s simplest, focused definition, which is that “love is grace released.” I want to assure you that if you think you love or are loved, but the love is defined by feelings alone, or driven by selfish motivations, it is not love. It cannot meet the definition. It is just a counterfeit that will disappoint, damage and possibly even destroy you or someone else involved with it. To decide whether love is real, ask if, when released, it becomes the delivery vehicle of God’s grace. When you demonstrate unselfish love toward others, your actions release a divinely designed dose of God’s grace into their lives. Most of the time, this release of His grace depends on your willingness to provide it, even knowing it might cost you. If you hold love back, or selfishly substitute something you deliberately disguise as love, someone will miss the grace. However, as you release a demonstration of real Christian love, God’s grace lands squarely on the need it has been designed by heaven to fill… only because you cared enough to love enough. I’m Dr. Bob and that’s a Mentoring Minute. You can listen to previous Mentoring Minutes at http://www.mentoringministry.com/blog/.
