I want to talk to you about going to the dock and waiving goodbye to your sin. Now, this will require an explanation. John 1:29 (NKJV) says, “The next day John saw Jesus coming toward him, and said, “Behold! The Lamb of God who takes away the sin of the world!” In the original Greek, John’s words, “takes away” have the same meaning as to “expiate.” This high-sounding theological term simply means, “To take action to remove, or wipe clean, the stain of guilt.” It can also mean, “To carry into a boat, weigh anchor, and sail away.” Picture a person going to a dock at the ocean and watching his or her sin sail away forever. Take a moment and meditate on these thoughts and then on the John 3:36a, which says, “He who believes in the Son has everlasting life…”

Here is some Spiritual Food for Thought. When you accepted Christ as Lord and Savior, you bought your sin a one-way ticket out of your life. You watched your sin sail away past the horizon, never to return. If you have not yet accepted Christ, do so now. Do not bother to waive goodbye. Just turn your back on your sin, turn toward Christ and walk away into your blessings. One more thing – think about how cargo loaded on a ship has no choice about its departure time or destination. When God apprehended your sin, He packed up your sin and caused it to sail away over the horizon. You are now free in Christ. Be sure there is nothing that God sent away when you were saved that you might be trying to convince you to give it a return ticket. I’m Dr. Bob. Do not bother to waive goodbye. Do not bother to look back. Just turn your back to your sin, turn toward Christ and keep walking. You can listen to additional Mentoring Minutes at www.mentoringministry.com.

I want to share a decisive moment of truth that struck me in a powerful way. On the way to church, I was joking with my wife, Nancy, about hitting the jackpot in the lottery. No, I do not play the lottery! God is my source and I try to steward with great care, all that He provides. Anyway, I was joking about hitting the jackpot. At that moment, the Holy Spirit spoke to my heart that when I accepted Christ, I hit the greatest jackpot there is.

Ephesians 2:8 (NKJV) says, “For by grace you have been saved through faith, and that not of yourselves; it is the gift of God.” Romans 6:22-23 (NKJV) says, “But now having been set free from sin, and having become slaves of God, you have your fruit to holiness, and the end, everlasting life. {23} For the wages of sin is death, but the gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord.”

What cold possibly compare to being given the gift of eternal life… and a trip into the favor of God? The best thing about this is that it was free. I was a guaranteed winner. That is what I call a jackpot. I’m Dr. Bob and that is worth shouting about. So… what are you waiting for? Give God glory with a shout of joy-filled gratefulness! Hallelujah! Now, you can listen to additional Mentoring Minutes at www.mentoringministry.com. Be sure to check the bookstore page on my website, where you will find two hundred previous Mentoring Minutes available through my two books, “Reflections – A Devotional Journal: Volumes One and Two.”

I’m Dr. Bob and for just a Mentoring Minute I want to remind you of a child’s poem with which you may be familiar. It is called, “Mary had a little lamb.” I often wonder if its author had another little Lamb in his or her heart when this poem was written. The Bible is the story of such a Lamb. His name is Jesus. His small beginnings changed everything. Luke 2:11-12 (NKJV) says, “For there is born to you this day in the city of David a Savior, who is Christ the Lord. {12} And this will be the sign to you: You will find a Babe wrapped in swaddling cloths, lying in a manger.” The Lord Jesus Christ was born as a baby in a stable. When He began His ministry thirty-years later, John 1:29 records John the Baptist saying this: “Behold the Lamb of God who takes away the sin of the world.” Revelation 13:8b (NKJV) tells us He became “…the Lamb slain from the foundation of the world.”

God’s amazing plan for redemption, which focuses on the Lamb, displays a pattern for the ages. It shows how things can grow from small to large and when they mature, something miraculous is set in motion. Let the small beginnings of what is in your heart grow into something earth shaking and significant. Regardless of how many times you have done this, I urge you to take the time once again to “Behold the Lamb who takes away the sin of the world.” You will find it as inspiring and life changing as ever. It could begin the breakthrough you need for small beginnings to grow into a something great. Perhaps you have never beheld the Lamb. Now would be an excellent time to look to Jesus and let Him start something miraculous in your life. I’m Dr. Bob. I urge you to take the time right now to “Behold the Lamb who takes away the sin of the world.” It could begin the breakthrough you need for the small beginning of something great that God has planned for you. You can listen to additional Mentoring Minutes at www.mentoringministry.com.

I’m Dr. Bob and for just a mentoring minute, I have a question. Have you ever been asked why you do what you do? I have and there have been many times my answer to this question was, “Just because!” I am guessing you have said the same thing. When anyone asks you why you follow Christ, and why you are so committed to Him (and they will), you do not have to say, “Just because.” You have a far more significant answer. You can say, “Just because of who He is.” Or… how about adding, “and just because of what He has done for me.” Both of these answers are awesome door openers to help someone else turn and follow Him.

I’m Dr. Bob and for just a mentoring minute I want to ask how you would describe your attitude when you go to church? Do you come because of a sense of obligation? Do you attend just because your family does? If this or other similar reasons are the case, you are probably just ducking in and then, as quickly as you can, ducking back out! Do not duck your opportunity. Take a chance. Open your heart to God’s life-giving Word to you. Come and sit. Soak it in. Then, you can pour it out. If you allow God’s Word to soak deeply into your heart every time you come to church, two things will happen. First, you will become someone you never imagined or hoped you could be. Second, you will find yourself pouring His Word out all over others, and they will experience what they otherwise never would have. They will be touched by the power of the living God. They, like you, will be changed forever. I’m Dr. Bob. Contact me at www.mentoringministry.com and let me know what you think.

I’m Dr. Bob and for just a mentoring minute, I want to tell you about my best pair of shoes. I was out walking this morning. The rain had just stopped, there was a cool breeze and the Florida sun was shining. What a beautiful morning to be wearing my new walking shoes. They are the most comfortable walking shoes I have ever had. As I was walking, I could not help but be reminded that so many people in the world have no shoes… and what about those who have no feet? I realized I was not just walking in the s.u.n.shine; I was walking in the S.O.N.shine – which I call the favor of God. As I continued to walk, I heard the still, small voice of the Holy Spirit say to me, “Remember the best shoes I ever gave you? I spoke of them through Paul’s words in Ephesians, Chapter 6. They are the shoes of peace! If you will trust in Me, they will never wear out and will always fit you.” Why don’t you exercise with God’s walking shoes, the shoes of peace? I’m Dr. Bob. Ephesians 6:15, the International Children’s Bible says, “And on your feet wear the Good News of peace to help you stand strong.” Share this with someone who is need of these shoes. They are freely given to those who believe. Contact me at www.mentoringministry.com and let me know what you think.
