Nobody escapes the battles that come with life. Often, they will be battles against difficult, or even malevolent forces. When this happens, these forces, which are demonic in nature, will be cunning and relentless. Though they may leave us alone for a season, all of us will eventually face their assaults. These may come as sickness, the loss of a job or position, rejection, anger or unforgiveness toward us. Whatever the attacks look like, we would be wise to understand that behind them are spiritual forces. Ephesians 6:12 (NKJV) says, “For we do not wrestle against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this age, against spiritual hosts of wickedness in the heavenly places.”
The devil defines the success of his attacks in many ways. For him, success is when he attacks our minds and hearts, entrapping us emotionally and challenging our faith. He will try to get us to accept a sense of helplessness and feelings of hopelessness. If he succeeds, we become like prisoners of war. We’re out of the fight. We no longer are a threat to him. He wins! I’m Dr. Bob. If we fail to believe that God remains in control, we will lose the battle, becoming prisoners of our own broken attitudes! Our thoughts become lies that exalt themselves against the truth, which is the knowledge that we are not captives in defeat, but that we are winners and champions for Jesus. We win!
