Making Choices that Work
I recently heard Dr. Condoleeza Rice, the former American Secretary of State, say something like this: “You may not be able to control your circumstances, but you can control your response to your circumstances.” Her words led me to be thankful that I have choices today I never had, until became a Christian. It used to be that my responses to life’s situations were a mixture of carnal, self-serving emotions and attempts at thinking of ways to react. In these situations, I could never be confident of the outcomes. At times, my efforts worked, but looking back, I know my record of accomplishments was a dismal failure. The ICB version of Romans 8:5-6 clearly explains why.
Romans 8:5-6 (ICB) says, “For those who live according to the flesh set their minds on the things of the flesh, but those who live according to the Spirit, the things of the Spirit. {6} For to be carnally minded is death, but to be spiritually minded is life and peace.”
When you choose to be led by the Holy Spirit, you can have confidence that you are making successful, Spirit-led choices. You may not be able to control your circumstances, but you will be able to control your responses to them. Surrender your thinking to the Holy Spirit. He is always able, and will help you in every circumstance. I’m Dr. Bob. I know that none of us is perfect, and we do not always include God our decisions. However, when we do, He guides us into making excellent choices with equally excellent results. It really is that simple. If you want to be a winner and a champion, team up with the Holy Spirit and make His choices yours. Now, that is a pattern for your life worth every effort and any commitment.
