Spiritual Junkyard

I’m Dr. Bob and for just a mentoring minute I want to talk a little trash with you. I recently heard someone’s life described as a spiritual junkyard. It was a life tragically used up and rejected because of sinful, destructive behaviors and habits. The person’s life was trashed, seemingly destined for a forgotten, wasted ending. But, even in a junkyard, someone will come looking for just the right thing and buy, repair and restore it. God is always looking for someone to redeem, restore and renew. He will turn yesterday’s carnal trash into tomorrow’s spiritual treasure. I’m Dr. Bob. Luke 1:68 in the Amplified Bible says, “Blessed (praised and extolled and thanked) be the Lord, the God of Israel, because He has come and brought deliverance and redemption to His people!” Contact me at www.mentoringministry.com and let me know what you think.

The Rest of the Story

I’m Dr. Bob and for just a mentoring minute I want to talk about the rest of the story. Have you ever been totally in the dark, without a clue about what’s coming next or how things are going to end? I have found myself there many times. What I learned is that I may be in the dark, but God is forever and always in the light. When you are in the dark, and have no idea how things are going to turn out, you can always, always know where the light is… just look to God’s glory. When you do, you can patiently wait for the rest of the story because God is 100% faithful and completely trustworthy. That’s all you really need to know. Look for the glory and trust Him for the rest of the story. I’m Dr. Bob. Contact me at www.mentoringministry.com and let me know what you think.

Self-service Society

It seems that more and more of us place high value being independent from rules and restraints. We hate lines and we have learned to do everything ourselves. We no longer need the services of salespeople, librarians or others who used to be there to care for our needs. Everything in the world around us seems to be rapidly heading toward a self-service society. That can be really convenient. The question is, will it result in our personal loss of the desire and ability to serve others? That would be a tragedy. We are to be like Jesus, who came to serve. Paul described himself as a bondservant. It is the call of every Christian.

Buy One, Get One Free

I’m Dr. Bob. For just a mentoring minute, I want to admit to you that I love to shop. When I see an ad offering a “Buy one – Get one free” sale, I am easily attracted to it. However, I discovered an even better deal in the Bible! It is found in Isaiah 55:1, in which God says, “Ho! Everyone who thirsts, Come to the waters; And you who have no money, Come, buy and eat. Yes, come, buy wine and milk Without money and without price.” God is advertising that in His economy, you can buy an abundance of what will spiritually and eternally satisfy you, without spending any money. It is like an offer of a divine unlimited debit card from your heavenly Father. What it buys is far better than all the earthly goods you could accumulate. All it requires is your love for Him and your faithful commitment to Him.

Swiss Army Knife

I’m Dr. Bob and for just a mentoring minute I want to talk to you about a Swiss army knife. Have you ever had a Swiss army knife? It is extremely handy and valuable as long as you use it for the purposes for which it was intended. It has many tools, but do not try to cut a 2X4 or drill a hole in granite with it. Like a Swiss army knife, your life can be really effective and valuable to others, if you apply it, and yourself to God’s intended purposes. What is your divinely intended purpose? Stay focused. Apply yourself. Make a difference! I’m Dr. Bob. Contact me at www.mentoringministry.com and let me know what you think.

Your Biggest Mistake

I’m Dr. Bob and for just a mentoring minute, I want to talk with you about your biggest mistake. The biggest mistake we can make is not admitting we made a mistake. I would like to say I have never been guilty of this, but looking back, I know my refusal to admit my mistakes has, at times, cost me or someone else dearly. Be honest with yourself. You will probably come to the same conclusion. Fixing this costly mistake of refusing to admit your mistakes is a twofold process First; you have to become extremely transparent and honest when you look at yourself. Having done that, you can learn and grow. Second; set your heart and mind on the things of the Spirit. Having done that, you will look like, think like, love like and act just a little bit more like Jesus. I’m Dr. Bob. Contact me at www.mentoringministry.com and let me know what you think.

Ugly ain’t Pretty!

I’m Dr. Bob and for just a mentoring minute I want to speak of something really ugly – something called temptation. Unlike a natural battle, the best way to win the fight with temptation is to flee. That’s right. Temptation may seem to be pretty attractive, like Potifar’s wife must have been, but it’s really Ugly as sin – Ugly with a capital “U!” Be like Joseph, who, in the face of Potifar’s wife, knew the embrace of temptation was nothing attractive. It was just an ugly sin against God. When temptation pops up, do not hesitate. Run from its ugly face! As you do, you will be running to the beauty of God, and to the best of His blessings. I’m Dr. Bob. Contact me at www.mentoringministry.com and let me know what you think.

Batteries Not Included

I’m Dr. Bob and for just a mentoring minute I’d like to share an energizing thought. Have you ever unwrapped a gift that required batteries and found they were not in the package? Without a power source, your gift was useless. It works the same with spiritual gifts. Without their power source, they are useless. Ask the Holy Spirit to empower yours for maximum use. You will find that, unlike batteries that run down and are replaced, the Holy Spirit is always fully charged and ever-ready to anoint your gifts with power from on high. Don’t waste a good opportunity. Share the power of your gift with someone who needs a touch of God’s grace. I’m Dr. Bob. Contact me at www.mentoringministry.com and let me know what you think.
